Rio Futaleufu: Two Week Trip Itinerary

This option not only allows you to white water raft one of the most spectacular rivers in the world, but also leaves plenty of time for other activities available in the area. This region is world renowned for its fly-fishing and hiking. You can spend a day with a fly-fishing guide who will show you why people spend months here fishing. A two-day backpacking trip to the peak of Tres Monjas offers an evening with a local family and an amazing view into the Argentinian Andes.

Sample Two Week Itinerary
Puerto Montt - Puerto Montt
(Itinerary subject to change due to weather)

Day 1 : Arrive in Puerto Montt, where you will be met by one of your guides. You will spend the night in the beautiful town of Puerto Varas.

Day 2 : Jump on a short flight to Chaiten, then transfer by van to Futaleufu, about 4 hours on the Carretera Austral. Lunch on the way, alongside a lake or glacier. Arrive at our campsite for our first dinner, and meet the guides.

Day 3 : Rafting from Camp to the Bridge to begin our warm-up for the Class V rapids to come.

Day 4 : We will launch the boats from camp and do the entire lower section adding Class V rapids Mas O Menos and Casa de Piedre.

Day 5 : Travel by horseback up the Rio Azul to the La Cascada camp.

Day 6 : Spend the day on horseback exploring further up the Rio Azul or test your river skills by navigating the Class II Rio Azul by inflatable kayak.

Day 7: Rafting the infamous Inferno Canyon. The upper section of the Futaleufu has multiple Class V rapids and spectacular scenery. We will leave the boats at the Rio Azul and head back to camp.

Day 8 : Our final day of rafting, we meet the rafts at the Rio Azul and raft to camp. We will crash through the waves of Terminator, Himalaya and Kyburz. Those adventurous souls that want a little more rafting may choose to continue down through the lower section.

Day 9-13 : The itinerary for the second week is to be determined upon the desires of the group prior to departure. Activities include more rafting and kayaking, hiking to nearby alpine lakes, and visiting with the families of this region.

Day 14: Pack up, load the vans and head West. You will be driven back to Chaiten and accompanied on a flight to Puerto Montt where you can catch your connection home or continue your travels in Chile.
